Histoires parallèles de Péter Nádas : un roman européen et sexy

Résumé : La bipartition de l’Europe entre Est et Ouest véhicule une forte charge fantasmatique dont la littérature est la chambre d’écho. De ce point de vue, la chute du Mur signe la perte d’un ailleurs possible, d’une altérité qui permettait à chaque bord de penser en regard sa propre identité. Histoires parallèles est un roman intéressant pour explorer cette représentation clivante de l’Europe. Alors qu’il semble correspondre, par ses excès, sa couleur locale et sa dimension politique, à l’imaginaire occidental de la littérature « de l’Est », le livre déstabilise. Victimes de l’Histoire, de l’ordre social et sexuel se croisent dans un entrelacs narratif qui exige du lecteur, à mesure qu’il construit son propre cheminement, qu’il se confronte à l’autre puis se l’approprie intimement, faisant ainsi d’Histoires parallèles un roman de la réconciliation.

Abstract : The bipartition of Europe into East and West is infused with a strong fantasmatic current, of which literature is the echo chamber. From this angle, the fall of the Wall signals the loss of a possible elsewhere, of an otherness that used to allow each side to reflect upon its own identity. Parallel Stories is an interesting novel to explore this divisive representation of Europe. While its excesses, local colour and political dimension seem to match up with the Western imagination of “Eastern” literature, the book is an unsettling one. Victims of History and of the social and sexual order are brought together in this intermingled narrative that urges the reader, throughout his progress, to confront the other and become closely entangled with him, so that Parallel Stories stands out as a novel of reconciliation.
